alone

In the hours, days and weeks following my mothers death, I experienced something I never had before — the sudden overwhelming sensation of a deep void in the center of my chest, which I expressed like this in a poem about missing her:

“my chest becomes a gaping hole

cleaves my heart, then bares my soul”

This is like that.

alone

strange how
#missing #you
manifests as a void,
a hollow in my chest,
where only space exists
in the place that once held
warm flesh and blood,
a heartbeat of love.

now, emptiness
lives here

alone
