twin suns

This picture of a sunset on the Mississippi River in Almonte was taken by Kathy Dobson in late 2020. I “re-touched” it using Photoshop to give it the painterly feel I use on this blog. I found the reflection captivating and calm and I imagined the result of the joining of the twin suns.

This poem is about that.

twin suns

twin suns that share
a river and sky
don’t waste their time
by asking why

calm waters mirror
beauty above
as a child its
parents’ love

they simply are
at dusk or dawn
before the light
is swiftly gone

they help create
an open space
in which may live
more love and grace

then disappear
into each other
and thus become
the nightscape’s mother
