don’t say a word

February 19, 2023: This poem was inspired by the beautiful love song at the bottom of the post.

The love song was originally sent to me on January 12, 2019, and I wrote the poem the following day January 13, 2019; it remained hidden for four years and five weeks. I published it on February 19, 2023.

don’t say a word

shhhhhhh.
be still.

listen to my heart beat
in the living space
between us.

hear my breath: the
whisper of scotch pine
in a summer breeze.

feel me soft and warm
against your skin.

fill the silence
with nothing
but longing,
you, and
me.

don’t say a word.
just listen and
be still.
