gone

i met a man
at the zoo
he said he wanted
to be my crew

my fate was sealed
right from the start
and yet i chose
this course to chart

we chatted morning
noon and night
his messages
brought me delight

he sent me love songs
by the dozen
got my tender bits
a buzzin

our newfound closeness
and flirtation
slowly turned
to exploration

he kissed me softly,
bit me hard
did some chores
in my backyard

i shared my wisdom
fed his heart
and then he done
blow my apart

he said he loved me
then made me cry
especially when
he said goodbye

i should have known
that ecstasy
is no more
than a fantasy

i was foolish
yes, it’s true
i wish i’d had
a clearer view

now he’s gone
his fortune to seek
tween red river valleys
and snow-covered peaks

but hey, my life is
mine to live
to rise again
perhaps forgive

it’s not the first time
a man has left
no point in weeping
or being bereft

what lies ahead
one day i’ll see
it’s in the hands
of destiny
