broken dreams

this night I weep
for shattered hearts
and mourn the lost
unfinished starts

i grieve a tender
hand in mine
together needs
hard to define

a seeker, hider
partner in crime
someone with whom
to drink fine wine

to kiss hard and long
until we moan
to tend the seeds
in fields i’ve sown

wild parts of me
fill with desire
my body shakes
with heat and fire

i yearn for lovers
long since gone
who said goodbye
before the dawn

they came and went
brains and brawn
left cold wet sheets
and wasted spawn

i ache for more
and pray for less
feel emptiness
in time’s redress

then as morning
light draws near
I beg for sleep
to banish tears

close my eyes
forget the words
carried on
the wings of birds

it’s slumber that finds
the truth alone
explores the depths
thus far unknown

when i awake
from broken dreams
all and none
are as they seemed

no longer black
the sky is blue
yet i am still
the only crew

my purpose is
this day to bring
magic, grace
and wished-for things.
