casualties
This morning, when I was walking on the Ottawa Valley Rail Trail (OVRT), I came upon a dead frog. I took a picture.
This evening, when I was browsing the Friends of Mississippi Mills Facebook page, I came upon a conversation about unleashed dogs.
And whaddya know? The two random events collided into a poem LOL 😛
Good thing I took the picture so I would have an image to go along with the words.

dear folks who don’t believe in leashing
seems others think you need some teaching
to put your dogs on ten-foot ropes
or risk the town will call you dopes
like all of nature’s great divides
this one also has two sides
the one where canines are controlled
the other where they rock and roll
whose side is right and whose is wrong
we could argue six days long
against each others’ bulls we’d pit
flinging comments full of s**t
but in the end we’ll all be losers
if we make ourselves accusers
instead of finding common ground
thru civil convos about our hounds
today I walked the trail you see
and found this tiny casualty
lying in the dust and dirt
upside down and dead inert
no one wants their neighbour’s dog
to end up like this little frog
who met with a speeding ATV
while simply trying to have a pee
so put your guns back in your holtsers
rather take the time to bolster
the values we have as a nation
that clearly need rejuvenation
