introducing kitsu

This is ‘kitsune,’ my recently acquired new-to-me motorcycle.

Kitsune (kit or kitsu for short) is my third Yamaha V-Star 250. She follows in the tire tracks of the TheFox (purchased new in the fall of 2021) and TheTwin (bought used in spring 2023). TheFox and TheTwin were both 2020 models. While kitsune is a 2019, she is identical to her younger sisters.

Her name, which is Japanese, was suggested to me by my friend Ryan Rosborough. I loved it from the moment I learned it’s meaning. It’s full of auspicious synchronicity as well as being a wonderful way to honour TheFox, who was damaged beyond repair on July 2nd last year when she and I collided with a ditch on Lally Road.

Here’s a summary of the meaning behind the name kitsune:

“In Japanese folklore, “kitsune” (狐) literally means “fox,” but it also refers to a type of yōkai, a supernatural creature or spirit. Kitsune are often depicted as intelligent beings with magical abilities that increase with age and wisdom. They are known for their shapeshifting abilities, particularly their capacity to transform into human form.” (more here).

Kit is with Ryan to get fitted with the same kind of crash bar that saved my life when TheFox and I went in the ditch.

Kit has only travelled a little over 8,000 kms since she made her debut in ’19 and she’s looking forward to helping me see if I’m ready to ride sometime in the near future.

Everybody keep your fingers crossed.
