7 reasons i love grass point lodge b&b

After a year of wanting to visit Grass Point Lodge B&B in Newboro, ON, and having been foiled on every occasion for one reason or another, I finally made it there on Canada Day, July 1, 2024.

What a delightful spot.

I had high expectations based on the photos I had seen posted on Facebook and, unexpectedly, my expectations were exceeded!

Here are some of the things I love about Grass Point Lodge B&B…

1) Location

The B&B is wonderfully situated in the Township of Rideau Lakes, which is in turn part of Leeds & Grenville County and the Ontario Highlands. It’s only a couple of kilometres from Newboro, home of Kilborn’s on the Rideau, a shopping destination that must be experienced to be appreciated, and a five-minute drive to the quaint town of Westport. For a motorcyclist such as myself who loves to ride the highlands, it’s perfectly situated.

2) Setting

The first thing I wanted to do when I got there was never leave. The rustic lodge sits alone in a mixed forest overlooking Newboro Lake, which is part of the Parks Canada Rideau Canal system and designated a World Heritage Site. There seemed to be a peaceful and calming energy about the place and I felt immediately at ease. I sat on the porch for a good half hour before I felt any inclination to take a look at my room.

3) One sweet suite

There’s a lovely self-contained one-room suite on the bottom floor. It’s equipped with a small convection oven, microwave, coffee maker, sink, dishes, a compact but full bathroom, an easy chair, gas fireplace, queen-sized bed (with heated bedding!) and a big-screen TV, though why anyone would want to watch TV in this tranquil spot is beyond me. The suite walk out is under the porch and also has a view of the lake.

4) Lots of places to chill

Besides the main-floor porch, there are plenty of other places to hang out and relax including several fire pits, two docks, a front garden and the large lawn spreading down to the lake.

5) Toys!

What would a lakeside retreat be without water toys? Try your hand at kayaking or canoeing or ask Peter (the owner) to take you for a ride in the cocktail cruiser… Or perhaps you would fancy a dip in the lake on a hot day… Hey, you might even want to try your hand at horseshoes!

6) Beautiful beds and baths

The inside of Grass Point Lodge B&B is simply beautiful. Somehow, it’s at once cozy and spacious and I felt at home the minute I walked in. Each of the four bedrooms on the second floor has its own special character and appeal and each is artfully decorated with unique pieces and interesting ‘objects.’

7) Welcoming hosts

Peter and his wife Kathy are warm and welcoming hosts who made me feel like a special guest. They are thoughtful and kind and the type of folks who will go that extra mile to make your stay enjoyable.

I can’t recommend Grass Point Lodge B&B highly enough and I’ll be going back again soon I hope. Take a look at the video below and see if you don’t agree.
