brilliant loop follows inauspicious start

Kickstand up. Kill switch off. Reach left hand down. Turn key in the ignition to on position. Press start with right thumb.

That’s my routine.

But on April 10, there was no key in the ignition.

Damn. Must’ve forgot the key in the house. Grrrrr.

You know what comes next. I also forgot to put the kickstand back down before I got off the bike to retrieve the key. I was reminded of the the kickstand when I hit the driveway with a thud. Ouch!

Once horizontal, I lay in there for a minute or two feeling foolish while doing a body scan to make sure I was okay. Thankfully, other than a soon-to-be-sore left knee, bruised elbow and wounded pride, I was fine.

I stood up, dusted myself off and got TheFox back on her feet all by myself using the technique I learned last year at a Motorcycle Masters course. It was the first time I’d had to right the bike on my own since I was taught how to do it. (Yay me!) It wasn’t the first time, however, that I had dropped TheFox, uh uh. I dropped her close to a dozen times during my first year of riding. And last season I dropped Blue five or six times. But I had never been down in the driveway with either of them.

I fetched the key from the house, fired her up and was off for a great solo loop through Ride The Highlands: Almonte / Appleton and Derry sideroads / Franktown / Blacks Corners / Perth / Lanark / Fallbrook / Bennett Lake Road / Elphin / Snow Road Station / Ompah / Plevna / Vennachar / Denbigh / Renfrew / Almonte.

If you click on the image below, it should take you to the route on Google maps where you may shift and change the route to suit your heart’s desire.

The brilliant solo ride on a beautiful day is also captured in the Relive below <3
